#1: Are any of you R-A-D fans on MySpace or LiveJournal? So am I! Let’s be friends! My plan is to post something once or twice a week to both; sort of as an addendum to this site. Might be another robot, some cool robot links, a rant about the state of the art world, etc. I’m not exactly sure yet, but I’ll try to make it worthwhile for you. After looking at the three prints as a whole, I have decided to change the name from “Punctuation Bots” to “WTF Bots”. If you entered the contest, you’ll be getting an informative email in the next day or so which will tell you when you can expect these.

“Tea” is the topic for Illustration Friday this week. I believe I may have posted this image on R-A-D before so I played around with it a bit. It’s from a little one-page comic I made last year using the words of a Gary Snyder poem. I love tea, so this is also sort of the first robotic self-portrait I ever created.

So here’s the story: This idea popped into my head a few weeks ago. I decided that it wasn’t really my brand of humor so I shelved it, or at least I thought I had. While working on other projects, this idea just kept coming back over and over again. So finally I had to just do it, to get it over with. About 3/4 of the way through, I became very tired of inking it and decided that I wasn’t going to do any more shading or the lettering on the love tester machine. That’s about it. They ain’t all winners people. Enjoy my failure.

I’m not going to make this into a whole process series as I did with Robo2, but I thought those of you who entered the contest might like a little taste of what you’ll be getting soon.

Please ignore the “hand on the hip” arm. That will not be in the print.

Sorry for the late post today kids. I’ve been out mailing buttons and prints that some of you lovely people have purchased. I’ve also been busy working on a few different projects, so I’m happy to present Boris Ruckels’s robot, “Autumn”, for today’s post.
