March 17th, 2006 :: “I Can’t Believe It Drank The Whole Thing!”

This was just a super quick sketch for an idea I had yesterday at a coffeeshop but I decided the original had a certain “character” to it, so I scrapped any plans to make it look “pretty”. Happy St. Patrick’s Day everybody! No time to draw, too busy drinking.

Also, for those of you who missed out on the first Robot-A-Day contest last month: I happen to have a few Punctuation/WTF Bot sets left. If you want to feel almost as good as the winners of the contest did, they are now super cheap and for sale in the R-A-D Store.

March 16th, 2006 :: “BT’s Tired”

Not really a full-on robot, I guess. I was busy painting, drawing, and inking for some bigger projects today and my arms (and the rest of me) are really tired. So yeah, for those of you who don’t know me, this is pretty much what I look like, minus the arms of course. I like my new shaggy look, but I miss my mohawk and muttonchops. I was so much easier to draw back then.

March 15th, 2006 :: “Look Who’s Back”

It’s our good friend the turntable bot, this time as created by Ray Frenden for Draw My Character #2 as seen on Drawn!. Ray’s been featured on R-A-D before and is well deserving of a second showing. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; go check out Ray’s site over at http://www.penguinx.org.

March 14th, 2006 :: “IF - Tattoo”

The Illustration Friday topic this week is “Tattoo”. I absolutely love tattoos and tattoo history. This is my take on those amazing shop photos from the early days of tattooing. A big thanks goes to my roommate for coming up with the “Motherboard” heart idea.

March 13th, 2006 :: “A Gynoid’s Work Is Never Done”

Today’s robot is from the multi-talented and awesome Annie Wong. I’ve got two other pieces of Annie’s robot art brightening up my house right now. She also introduced me to the term for a female robot: gynoid. I will be personally upset if you don’t head over to http://www.headexplodie.com and check out all of her work.

March 12th, 2006 :: “Sketchbook Week - Day 7″

Woohoo, last day of sketchbook week! That’s not to say that there won’t be more sketchy bots coming; just not everyday. This is pretty much how I feel today, like I’ve got no hands, or at least none that posess the ability to draw. On a much brighter note, this is the first drawing in my new sketchbook. Feels good to get the first one out of the way.

March 11th, 2006 :: “Sketchbook Week - Day 6″

I think I’m over my very short phase of heavy cross-hatchery. I’ve sort of been slacking today, but I drew this while I was making soup tonight. Want the recipe? OK.

BT’s Orecchiette Stew

1 onion (diced)
3 cloves of garlic (diced)
1 can of corn (drained)
1 can of diced tomatoes (undrained)
Various tasty meats (I used deli salami, pepperoni, and bacon)
1/4 C. flour
1 lb. orecchiette pasta
Stock (I used a few boullion cubes and some water)
1/4 C. of heavy cream
Splash or three of Worcestershire sauce
Cayenne pepper and chipotle Tabasco sauce to taste

Fry up the onions and garlic in some oil on the bottom of a big pot. While you’re doing that, fill a smaller pot with water or stock, the cream, and Worcestershire sauce, and start heating up. Once the onions are ready, add the corn, tomatoes, meat, cayenne, and hot sauce, and let heat through. Stir in the flour. Add enough liquid from the small pot to cover everything in the big pot and bring to a boil. Add pasta. Add just as much more liquid as needed to keep the pasta covered. Boil as per the directions on the pasta box. It should be more stew-ish than soupy. Makes 6-8 big servings. Eat. Enjoy. Relax.

March 11th, 2006 :: “One Robot Every (Week)Day”

I’ll be posting “Sketchbook Week - Day 6″ later today but I wanted to put this little bit of news up here first: Due to a number of factors, this Saturday and Sunday’s robots will be my last regular weekend posts for the forseeable future. If I’ve got something cool to post, I might put it up, but otherwise just plan on Monday through Friday updates until I say differently.

I started Robot-A-Day because I needed a way to force myself to draw on a more regular basis and my favorite subject matter just so happens to be robots. What this site has turned into was honestly beyond my expectations when I posted the first ‘bot over four months ago. (For starters, the number of daily visitors to R-A-D is now five times what it was at the beginning of January.) Seeing other robot-art appreciators coming to this site and actively commenting or emailing me, combined with the support from other artists who have been willing to be featured has been a real kick in the ass for me to keep this thing going.

That being said, what can you expect from a weekday-only Robot-A-Day? Better quality robots (hopefully) and a happier and healthier BT (me). Expect to see a whole new crop of merch coming to the R-A-D Store in April too. Most of all, keep coming to the site, let me know if it needs anything to make it better, keep commenting, and if you’ve got the cash, please feel free to buy something! Support your favorite local (and global) artists. They deserve it.

Thanks,
BT
(Head of Robot Development)

March 10th, 2006 :: “Sketchbook Week - Day 5″

Look everybody, it’s our old friend Unit #001 out on the hunt. I’m not sure what he’s hunting, but I sort of want one for a pet.

March 9th, 2006 :: “Sketchbook Week - Day 4″

This one took longer than expected. Much longer. I wish I were better at long, straight lines.
