July 17th, 2006 :: “The Deviator Robot”

Welcome to Robot-A-Day’s second guest week. I’m out of town, so these fine artsy folks have happily lent their robots to the cause. Thanks.

Paul Loughbridge makes some awesome robots out of found objects. He has a lot more on his Flickr gallery. Enjoy!

July 14th, 2006 :: “Something Different”

Just a quick sketch of the style of robot that I don’t really care to draw all that often.

If you have ordered a t-shirt, it will be shipped today. I will be out of town for a week and will try to stay ahead on any orders coming in, but after today, nothing will ship until at least the 24th.

Coming next week to R-A-D: A guest week full of constructed or sculptural robots. Enjoy!

July 13th, 2006 :: “New Sketchbook Cover”

After yesterday’s general down-ness, I needed to do something fun. I had just purchased a new sketchbook, so I painted this on the cover. I like it!

Also, if you don’t know Jessica McLeod’s work, well, you really should. She’s been featured a few times on R-A-D and is one of the best internet friends a guy could ask for. Look what she did!

July 12th, 2006 :: “Untitled Robot”

I try not to let my own emotions corrupt my normally cute robots, but this image was far too vivid in my head, and today I am one depressed, little robot. Amongst a few other things, I have now been “under-employed” for just over one year and it has long ceased to be amusing…

Yes, I know its antenna is crooked. I don’t care.

July 11th, 2006 :: “R-A-D Merch Bot”

I have totally re-discovered my love of printmaking! I had an insanely fun two days with a friend of mine, she made her first two lino prints ever, and together we just rocked some printing business. I cut this in a few minutes and printed it on some scrap paper that I had lying around. Each robot is about 1.5″ by 3″. I have a bunch of these, so if you happen to buy something from the R-A-D Store, expect to get one as well as some other fun junk.

July 10th, 2006 :: “R-A-D T-Shirts For Sale”

These shirts are almost the only thing I’ve been working on this weekend, so that’s all I’ve got. Regular robotic updates start again tomorrow.

BUY A SHIRT!

July 9th, 2006 :: “R-A-D T-Shirts - Folded!”

That’s it, folks. All available t-shirts, heat set and folded into neat little piles, and soon to be headed for a box (your postal box!).

In the future, I could see myself doing smaller runs of shirts, more of a wearable art print sort of thing, but if I had to do this big of a batch again, I might farm out the work to some pros. As much as I love screenprinting, I can now see the beauty of consistent quality and placement, as well as not having to heat set 40 shirts by hand.

Here’s the specs:
Womens’ shirts are printed on Anvil Basic Cotton Tees and are available in sizes S-XL.
Mens’ shirts are printed on Gildan Ultra-Cotton Heavyweight Tees and are available in sizes S-2XL
Both are available in red or navy blue.

These are hand printed shirts, so each one is one of kind, in a way. I have pulled a few shirts that were mis-printed or printed unacceptably far off from the center of the shirt. I will figure out the size/color combinations on those later today and will be selling them for a reduced price.

They will officially go on sale late tonight/early Monday and will be $16 (shipping included), or $19 for non-US buyers.

July 8th, 2006 :: “R-A-D T-Shirts - Printing”

A rare weekend update! The first ever, Robot-A-Day t-shirts were, for the most part, successfully printed last night. Dig it…

My kitchen table printing setup: Screen hinged to my all-purpose printing rig, boards to keep the shirts flat, squeegee, paint/ink rag, and the always super sexy Portland Mercury to use for test prints.

The last shirt, just itchin’ to be inked.

Ladies first!

And then the dudes.

I thinned down the ink slightly, giving them a bit of a worn-in look already. There were only a few minorly mis-printed shirts, which I might end up selling for a big discount. (Just think of it as your opportunity to wear a one-of-a-kind shirt at a low, low price!)

These will officially go on sale on Monday the 10th. Women’s sizes run from S-XL and men’s sizes from S-2XL. Just a warning: There are only a few shirts in each size/color combination, so if you really want one, don’t hesitate.

July 7th, 2006 :: “R-A-D T-Shirts”

Sorry for the late post today, kids. It’s also a bot you’ve all seen before, but I’ve been busy working on it, and I’m excited, so I thought I’d share. To make up for the lack of a completely new robot, I’ll be updating throughout the weekend as the shirts get printed.

Design positive prepped. Ready, set, go…

Oil it up!

Burn it!

Wash it out! Sexy toes.
