November 16th, 2006 :: “The End of the Beginning”

Pushing the limits of robotic good taste even further, this is the back cover image to go with Tuesday’s front cover. It is a stillborn robot fetus, left to rot on the floor. I still need to do a bit more colorizing before it’s ready for print, but as far as I’m concerned, this will probably go down as the most horrific robot image I will ever want to create.

November 15th, 2006 :: “Scientist and Robot”

This is the first panel of something I’m working on with my roommate.

November 14th, 2006 :: “Machines Are Beautiful Cover”

I’ve got a few time-consuming robots in the works, so this is just a work in progress, but still a complete robot I suppose. This image will be on the cover of a zine with the theme, “Machines Are Beautiful” as well as a flyer for an art show of the same name. This still needs a little more ink and some color on it before I call it a day.

WARNING :: I try to keep this site to a general standard of “work-safeness.” The full image above is of a robot giving birth, so if you do not want pendulous, metal breasts and a gaping, robot vagina on your monitor, you might not want to go any further. For those of you who want to see the whole thing, click the image above, or CLICK RIGHT HERE.

November 13th, 2006 :: “We’re More Than Horses”

Here’s that robot unicorn piece I was telling you I did in my classmate Terry’s unicorn sketchbook.

November 10th, 2006 :: “All Tied Up First Sketch”

Here’s another sketchbook find from 2004. This is the sketch that eventually became my “All Tied Up” print. This idea went through many variations, including a painting which I ended up sawing in half out of frustration, before finally being drawn and screenprinted.

A bunch of new stuff coming next week.

November 9th, 2006 :: “Cute Wee One”

While going through my sketchbooks a few weeks ago, re-scanning some things for 101 Robots, I came across quite a few really old robots of mine. I’m sort of in catch up mode on a few things for school and one big robot thing I’ll show next week, so here’s an old robot from, I would guess, sometime around early 2004.

November 8th, 2006 :: “Her Name Is Yoshimi”

I’ve got so much homework to do, but luckily I’ve got my friends in the illustration department to help me out. This one is from fellow PNCA’er, Terry Blas, and is of course based on the Flaming Lips’s Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots. I did a drawing of a robot playing with a tiny unicorn for Terry that hopefully I will be showing here soon. You can see more of Terry’s work at http://www.quickburningpaper.com.

November 7th, 2006 :: “Natural Selection”

Ink on watercolor paper yet again. This is also for one of my classes called Time Arts. It’s sort of an overview class dealing with a lot of artforms where time or sequence have effect (video, sound, performance, etc). We’re discussing comics and graphic novels now, and our first assignment was to do a one-panel, black and white, gag comic.

November 6th, 2006 :: “A Robot From Another Time”

I thought I might start out year two of Robot-A-Day with something a little different than what you may have seen over the last year. I’ve been feeling very “olde tyme-y” lately, so this is what comes out of that I guess. 5″ by 5″, ink on watercolor paper.

November 3rd, 2006 :: “Crossing The Finish Line”

Do you know what this is? Yes, it’s a robot, you’re correct. Do you know what else it is? This is the last robot of the first year of Robot-A-Day! I started posting robots on November 4th, 2005, using Blogger before quickly moving R-A-D to it’s own domain. I did a bit of counting earlier and I figure that I have shown over 270 robots of my own creation (R-A-D started as 7-days-a-week, and some posts contain multiple robots). This is not even counting the amazing artists whose robots I have also featured. If you are among those artists, I owe you a giant bear hug. You made things much easier when life or plain old laziness got in the way of robot-drawing. If you are not among those artists and you’d like to be, I’m always looking for new robots to share. Email me at bigtime@robopocalypse.com and we can talk.

I have added almost all of the Stumptown Comics Fest-debuted items to the R-A-D Store. Remember, 10% of all sales go towards the “Get BT Inked Fund”, which is now sitting at $27.10. In an effort to clean a little house for the new year, I have dropped the price on a few items that are almost gone. There is only one Sample-Bot left (for now, there will be more), which is only $5. Also, I only have five of the Turntable Bot T-Shirts left, so if you happen to wear a men’s large or a women’s large or extra-large, they are now only $12 ($15 for non-US buyers). (Info about a possible reprint and/or different design coming soon)

Monday the 6th begins “Robot-A-Day Mark II.”
