Rembrandt Plush

Here’s the final Rembrandt plush doll that I posted the WIP from on Friday. He didn’t end up quite as chubby as I would have liked, but I’m really happy with the result and of course now I want to make more plush things, so many more! Plus look at his sweet pants! One thing I’m quite happy with is that besides the flesh colored felt and thermal fleece hair, every other bit of this doll was made from fabric and things I already had. Hooray for not having to buy new supplies!

One of the paintings from my “Spoke Up!” show in January just got featured on a cool blog called Mixed Plate. It’s included with a lot of other bike related arts and crafts. Go check it out now!

The Robopocalypse Comics Collective had a meeting on Friday and we did another jam comic. Read it here!

New Baby Otto things should start posting tomorrow or Wednesday.

I’ve Got Plush Fever (WIP)

For the final project in my Art History class, the assignment is to take pretty much any work of art throughout history, of our choosing, and “re-envision” it as we see fit. I chose to work from a self-portrait of Rembrandt van Rijn, and obviously, plush is my medium. He still needs clothes (which will bulk him up a bit more) and some painting accessories to finish him off, but I think he’s coming along nicely so I thought I’d share a progress shot. I have decided to hand sew him despite the fact, as can be seen behind him, my sewing machine is readily available. I’m not sure why I made that choice, but I’ve stuck it out so far. Never again though, machines from now on, I say! He’s about 10-11 inches tall.

I need to make a few robots while I’m still in the plush zone.

Final page! Wooooo!

As a reminder, this comic, and 10 others, will be featured in the Robopocalypse Comics Collective’s Creation anthology. Creation will debut on May 26th at the Spokane Comicon and will be for sale online after that.

Hey look everybody, it’s Gort! Fifth and final page tomorrow.

Selling Out.

I’ve finally updated my oft-unused Etsy store. Along with prints and paintings, I will be periodically selling some of my robot originals from the Robot-A-Day era of November 2005-December 2006. I’ve also thrown in some special bargain-priced print packs as well. Check out what I’ve got for sale below.

Say what you will about Don but I love the idea of a deity having a roommate. Is Don the creator of perhaps an alternate world? How else could he survive in the void of space? So many questions!

In a wild turnaround from my recent lack of posting, I should have things to show you nearly every weekday for like the next month! This week, I will be posting pages from my comic for the Creation antholgy that the Robopocalypse Comics Collective will be releasing near the end of May. The anthology will include “Before the Time of the Laser Apes” as well as comics from the 10 other members of the RCC. Ever since my early mention of them here, here, and here, people have been asking for more laser ape stuff. This five page story tells the tale of the creation of their mighty race as we (or at least I) know it.

And then starting next week, you will be seeing a lot of Baby Otto!

Soapbox Derby!

My first foray into the wild world of flyer design, I suppose. Every August, as Portland tradition states, groups of adults shall race homemade cars down the trails of beautiful Mt. Tabor. Intoxicating drinks shall be consumed (except for the drivers) and good times shall be had by all. I’m helping organize the first soapbox derby team for my school, PNCA. We need a few more crew members, so I whipped these up last night and plastered the school with them this afternoon.

You’ve all visited the site of the new Robopocalypse Comics Collective by now haven’t you? Things are going quite well for the group. We will be debuting our first anthology “Creation” at the Spokane Comicon on May 26th and it will be for sale on our site a few days later. If you’re hip to the Livejournal, you should be our friend. You can see unique content such as group jam comics and get all the news about new or upcoming releases. On that note, we have just had our first comic released since the group’s founding. Aidan Koch’s Tierd Barr and the Unibrow Forest is a funny story about a barr, a barr that likes drugs and Days of Our Lives. My Head Feels 10 Pounds Lighter!

AKA: “Oh, so that’s what it looks like when a comb touches my hair.” My friend Laura (a professional stylist) was giving away free haircuts at school today. I promised her eight months ago that she would be the next person to touch my hair, and if I’m anything, I am a man of my word. I’ve got a small case of “bike helmet hair” in the second photo, hence the poofy side bits.
