Weekly Print #4: Long Arm of the Law

Hey, everyone! This is print number four of The Weekly Print, so one month down, eleven to go! I think this is my new favorite on the year so far, what do you think?

Three colors: blue, transparent yellow, and dark brown. Later this week, or this weekend, I am going to do another DIY screenprinting post that covers the basics of my actual printing process, so make sure and come back soon. And, of course, if you like this print…

Available for $15 in the Weekly Print store!

January Sketchbook

The other week, I posted a few pages from my sketchbook, and they seemed to have been enjoyed, so here’s a few more recent spreads from my Moleskine. All are a combination of Copic 0.05 Multiliner, Pental PocketBrush, a handful of markers and a cheap watercolor set. These Moleskine don’t take watercolor in any traditional sense, but I kind of like the effect you can get by letting the paper decide whether or not it will absorb the liquid.

The middle page is definitely my favorite of this set, but I think “No Hurries, No Worries” will almost definitely make it onto a Weekly Print one of these days.

Tender Loving Valentines

I got to do a Valentine’s Day card for some of my favorite comic/art/handmade goodie selling folks at Tender Loving Empire. It’s the one with all the hearts, in case you missed when I posted the image a while ago. All 10 designs should be available at TLE in Portland or on their website very soon.

And as a reminder, I happen to have a large, screenprinted version of my design, as well as some other great Valentine’s Day cards and gifts for sale in my Etsy store.

Comics Update!

Hey, I realize I haven’t posted any new comic projects as of late, but Baby Otto #4 is in the research stage, and I have a short one-off book in the early stages as well. Anyways, I’ve gotten better at getting my comics out to the world a bit more recently with the help of a distribution rep. Some of my books are carried by Global Hobo Comics Distributor now too.

All of my books are, of course, still available from me, but if you happen to live near some of the shops below, they should be for sale there too, unless they’ve sold out.

Minneapolis, MN - Big Brain Comics (been a while though, so they might be gone)
New York, NY - Jim Hanley’s Universe, and Forbidden Planet
Berkeley, CA - Comic Relief
State College, PA - Comic Swap
Baltimore, MD - Atomic Books
Portland, OR - Floating World, Reading Frenzy, Tender Loving Empire, Powell’s (Burnside and Hawthorne), and possibly Cosmic Monkey and Guapo

Maybe more? That’s all I can think of right now.

And just so this post isn’t completely devoid of pretty pictures, here’s this week’s Weekly Print piece. Only 49 more to go!

Weekly Print Stickers!

I had some Weekly Print vinyl stickers made up by the good people at Diesel Fuel Prints, here in Portland. These will come free with orders, and will be available in the store soon, but for now, the first dozen or so people to email their mailing address to prints@theweeklyprint.com will receive a few absolutely free, so you can, you know, stick them on things. These are high quality, all-weather vinyl stickers, perfect for the bumper of your car, the back of your local stop sign, bike rack, or sketchbook. I’ve got a bunch of these, so don’t be shy!

Travel Sketches

I did a little traveling to see some friends and family this last week. Here are a few of my favorite sketchbook pages from the trip.

Also, there’s a new print over at The Weekly Print. It’s a bearded lady, if that is going to inspire anyone to click who may not have otherwise.

“BEARD”

If you know me, or this blog, you probably know that I really like facial hair, like REALLY, REALLY like it. I made this back in April, when I shaved to take part in Moustache May, but am only finally showing it because I just had the engraved metal bit made last week. Statistically, some people will find this absolutely horrifying, some will find it fascinating, some will completely understand why I did this, and some just won’t care either way I suppose. Only two people have been brave enough to actually touch it.

I won’t say too much else besides answering these two questions: yes, that’s really my hair, and yes, I plan to eventually have a trophy case or wall full of these, each one further tracking the color and shape of my various facial hair experiments over the years.

Self Publisher Valentines

Look familiar? These cards were my original plan for the long-reach stapler design, but because August isn’t the best time to make Valentines, they became shirts first. Two colors on French Paper’s “Red Hot” Pop-Tone cover stock with matching envelope.

For sale in singles and sets of three in my Etsy shop.

WP: Wish You Were Here!

And we’re off! The Weekly Print has officially started! “Wish You Were Here” is an 8″ by 12″, three-color print in classic red, gold, and black. Astronauts have the tendency to pop up in my work again and again, so this feels like a good start to the year. I have 51 more weeks to go, so I hope you’ll join me for the ride over at The Weekly Print!

Available in the Weekly Print store if you are interested.

Paper For The Weekly Print

Things are gearing up pretty well over at The Weekly Print. The first print is planned out, and I will be printing them this weekend. I will post the first print on Monday the 5th, but until then, there are still discounted subscriptions in the Weekly Print store.

The picture above is a box of 500 sheets of heavy 12″ by 18″ paper. Each sheet equals two normal Weekly Print prints, or one larger print, so the box above is probably only around 1/4 of what I will need for the entire year of The Weekly Print! Still, good (and cheaper) to plan ahead on paper needs, am I right?
