Woody Guthrie Illo

This is the final of the first assignment for my Intermediate Illustration class. It’s Woody Guthrie finding his inspiration for “This Land Is Your Land.” Ink linework, watercolor, and some digital manipulation.

I’ve been waiting for MONTHS to post this robot, but I didn’t get my copy until yesterday. I did the logo for a new UK dance record label called Fat Robot Records, and this is Side A of FATBOT 01, Lokey Ltd ft. Charlie G. - “Lead Me To The Dancefloor. It’s super happy and dancey, not exactly what I usually listen to, but damn it if it wasn’t the most beautiful song I’ve ever heard the moment I saw that logo spinning on my turntable. Click here to buy it or listen to audio samples. Blue vinyl makes my heart go eeeeeeeeeee!
If any of you happen to be Scouse House DJs, let me know if you see this around, it just got released a few weeks ago.
Oh yeah, and here’s some Baby Otto too!

That’s it for the ghost of Ulysses S. Grant for now. I’ve had a lot of fun with the big lug, and I know a lot of you have too, so he may return in some future volume. There are only four more days left to complete The Life And Times Of Baby Otto Zeplin: Volume One, at which point I will be forming them into the rough shape of a tiny book, otherwise known as a mini-comic.

It’s been super hot in Portland these last two days and it’s been killing my ambition to draw, so instead I made this over at www.simpsonsmovie.com.

I apologize for the sort of half-assed post today, but with finals at school being in full swing, I didn’t get as much “robot time” as I’d have liked over the past week. The pissed off little robot on the left got cut from the final version of R-A-D’s new header, and let me tell you, it is not happy about it.
What are you doing this evening? If you happen to live in or around the Portland, OR metro area, you should maybe think about heading to Muddy Waters Coffeehouse at 2908 SE Belmont, say somewhere between 5 and 8 pm. You just might run into the opening reception of the “Machines Are Beautiful” show, a show in which I have two robot paintings. I helped hang the pieces last night. It’s very interesting to see everyone’s interpretation of the word “machine.” Maybe some pictures on Monday if I can remember to bring my camera.

September 19th was International Talk Like A Pirate Day, and I was called out for not doing a pirate robot that day. The thing is, I always want it to be in November sometime, so I forgot. I’m officially dubbing today “International Pirate Robot Day.” I think everyone should draw one, wink wink.
Look at the top of the page. Today’s featured bots are part of the new R-A-D header. Things needed a little change.

I posted a work-in-progress of this on Tuesday. I finally finsihed it!
WARNING :: I try to keep this site to a general standard of “work-safeness.” The full image above is of a robot giving birth, so if you do not want pendulous, metal breasts and a gaping, robot vagina on your monitor, you might not want to go any further. For those of you who want to see the whole thing, click the image above, or CLICK RIGHT HERE.
For those of you in the Portland, Oregon metro area :: The “Machines Are Beautiful” art show that this image is for will be on Friday, December 1st, from 5-8pm, at Muddy Waters Coffeeshop, on 29th and SE Belmont. Come on out and see some art!

Pushing the limits of robotic good taste even further, this is the back cover image to go with Tuesday’s front cover. It is a stillborn robot fetus, left to rot on the floor. I still need to do a bit more colorizing before it’s ready for print, but as far as I’m concerned, this will probably go down as the most horrific robot image I will ever want to create.

I’ve been lagging on my four panel strips lately, so it’s back to the old ways for today’s post! I think I might do this up as a three-color screenprint for the Stumptown Comics Fest.

Just a little vector fun. Robots giving the thumbs up will never get old to me.
