September 4th, 2006 :: “IF - Safe”

It feels good to be back doing Illustration Friday. I hadn’t contributed anything for weeks. A fairly literal translation of the theme, “safe,” but with robots, of course.

If you are coming here for the first time via Illustration Friday; welcome. I’ve got robots every weekday, so feel free to come back anytime. Also… T-SHIRTS!

August 24th, 2006 :: “IF - Match (Sketches)”

I hadn’t done anything for Illustration Friday for a few weeks, but that was all supposed to change this week. The theme was “Match” and for some reason, I was really hooked on the idea that I wanted to do it as a painting. Well, I finally gave up after not liking anything I was doing with the brushes. I attempted to paint the robot on the right, even though I liked the one on the left better. I will forever blame that choice for my failure.

Today and tomorrow, I have orientation for art school. I will probably be drawing robots all day, instead of paying attention, so hopefully I’ll have something better to show over the next few days.

June 28th, 2006 :: “IF - Rain”

“Rain” is this week’s theme for Illustration Friday. I wish it would rain. Yeah, that’d be nice.

June 21st, 2006 :: “IF - Dance”

“Dance” is the theme o’ the week at Illustration Friday. No extra description from me, but I will leave you with some lyrics from The Aquabats’ song, “Ska Robot Army.”

“They’re coming to take over
To terrorize the earth
They’re skanking in their best suits, so
Beware of the Ska Robot Army!”

Robot-A-Day T-Shirt Update!
I received a giant box of blank t-shirts yesterday. They will not be so blank by the end of this coming weekend. Yay!

June 5th, 2006 :: “Sample-Bot #009″

I love it when something I’m already working on matches up with Illustration Friday. The topic this week is “Portrait”. For those of you coming from Illustration Friday, check the last few day’s worth of posts and you’ll find I’ve been working on a small series of portraits of robots sporting facial hair. The unofficial title for this piece is “The Lonely Bachelor”.

I believe the technical name of this style is the “Franz Josef”, which is very similar to the “Friendly Muttonchops”, the only difference being a lack of hair on the upper cheek area, normally found in muttonchop styles. I sort of wish I had made these friendly muttonchops because with the accidental addition of the tiny glob of paint on the left side of the robot’s face, I could’ve referred to this as the “Lemmy”.

As always, it’s acrylic on a 2″ by 3″ piece of countertop sample.

May 16th, 2006 :: “IF - Angels And Devils”

The weekly theme for Illustration Friday is “Angels and Devils. I’m really happy with the robot’s expression in this one.

May 10th, 2006 :: “IF - Fat”

“Fat” is the topic of the week over at Illustration Friday. This may be one of the only robots I’ve ever drawn where you can’t see its face.

May 3rd, 2006 :: “IF - Under The Sea”

“Under The Sea” is the topic of the week over at Illustration Friday. This one was really fun to do. Also, make sure you come back tomorrow, I’ve got something pretty neat (to me at least) to say.

April 26th, 2006 :: “IF - Robot”

OK, so I knew it had to happen eventually: “Robot” is the topic of the week over at Illustration Friday. Usually, I rely on IF to generate one creative idea per week, and it had to go and give me “robot” this week. I really didn’t know what to do. I was left scratching my head, much like this robot. It’s also been a very busy week, I’ve been on the hunt for a “real job,” so sorry if this is a little more half-assed than usual.

Also, don’t forget to vote in the first ever, Robot-A-Day t-shirt poll. Click the “VOTE!” below to see all the designs.

April 19th, 2006 :: “IF - Spotted”

“Spotted” is the topic of the week over at Illustration Friday this week. Poor, poor sick robot.
